What is Moringa?
Moringa is native to the Himalayan regions of India. The Tree is now grown across tropical regions in Africa, Asia, islands in the Pacific and the Caribbean, and South America. The most commonly known variety of Moringa is Moringa Oleifera. It is a tree with long, delicate-looking branches, which have small, oval-shaped dark green leaves. Those leaves have a lot of healthy nutrients. For more about Moringa, please use our MoringaBot
Eating Moringa Leaves
If it’s your first time to eat Moringa leaves, you will be pleasantly surprised at the „meaty“ taste of them. The fresh Moringa leaves have a strong aftertaste if eaten raw. Some seconds after first chewing them, you will feel a burning sensation, that kicks in. The Moringa leaves combine well with other foods.
I personally have some trees in the Kitchen at the window. At mealtime, everyone (my little daughter loves it) takes some leaves and add them to the food. This is for our family an easy way to eat fresh Moringa leaves.
Everyone should try to eat the leaves raw to get the most benefit from them. Here are some suggestions for eating fresh Moringa leaves:
- Smoothies: they are the easiest way to consume a lot of Moringa leaves at once. I like mixing fresh Moringa to ginger and other fruits like mango or papaya to have a tropical taste. You can add one or more cups of fresh leaves to a smoothie of your choice for a super healthy drink!
- Salads, pizza or Sandwiches: If you mix fresh Moringa leaves into your salad, on your sandwich or pizza, you will hardly know you are eating Moringa leaves.
- Soups: add some Moringa leaves to your soup and you won’t find the intense flavor of them.
